Wooden toy helicopter model
Wooden toy helicopter model
Children love toys with moving parts, and this UH-1 helicopter model has both a spinning main rotor and a tail rotor.
This model is 4 3/4 inches long, 3 1/4 wide, and 2 1/8 high. I painted it a camouflage green.
Here is some background information on the UH-1:
The UH-1 was first used in combat operations in Vietnam in March 1962. The Army used it for various purposes, including general support, air assault, cargo transport, aeromedical evacuation, and search and rescue.
Internal seating of the UH-1 is made up of two pilot seats and additional seating for up to 13 passengers or crew in the cabin.
The UH-1 is approximately 57 feet long, nine wide, and 14 high. It has a capacity of 3,880 pounds, an empty weight of 5,210 pounds, and a maximum takeoff weight of 9,500 pounds. The aircraft's maximum speed is 127 miles per hour, with a range of 318 miles.
When I served in Vietnam from Dec. 1970 until Dec. 1971, the UH-1 was ubiquitous. There was no mistaking the sound of an approaching UH-1.
