Square weave box

The clever design of this box gives the illusion of being woven like a basket, but it is actually made up of three layers with different cuts on the outside and straight on the inside. The top and bottom are made from maple, and the side from Purpleheart. Purple is the real color of this wood from Central and South America, it is not stained, dyed, or painted. I gave it a polyurethane finish to bring out the color of the wood, and to preserve it for many years of use.

The box is 5 inches square, with an inside depth of 2 5/8 inches and an outside height of just under 3 inches.
